The Hartl Golf Resort is the only golf resort in the world to offer you not just one but three courses designed by Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer, and all of which have been constructed under the direction of the engineer Kurt Rossknecht, the most renowned golf courses architect in Germany by some considerable distance. The ideal golfing holiday to Bad Griesbach would consist of five days of golf on five different courses and a two-day break to take advantage of the resort's fantastic health spa facilities. Golf in Bad Griesbach provides perfect greenery every step of the way, made possible by the 55 green keepers and groundsmen who make sure that all the courses are in peak condition, all-year-round.
The Beckenbauer Golf Course in Penning and its direct neighbour the Mercedes-Benz Golf Course are the two latest golfing additions to the Hartl Golf Resort. Both courses are highly interesting and have been designed by Bernhard Langer. The Beckenbauer and the Mercedes-Benz are completely flat and easy to walk. Although the fairways and greens are challenging, both are accessible to players of every ability. The resort also features three other championship courses which offer completely different characteristics in terms of their terrain: the Brunnwies Golf Course (designed by Bernhard Langer), the Uttlau Golf Course and the Lederbach Golf Course.
The 5* FÜRSTENHOF is a relaxed and sporty superior 4-star hotel within the Hartl resort, offering the feel-good factor and wonderful panoramic views over the Rott Valley and the golf courses set on the southern slope of Bad Griesbach-Therme. It provides a unique combination of health spa facilities, activity and relaxation.
The heart of the hotel is the large health and spa area featuring indoor and outdoor thermal baths (28° to 36°), hot whirlpools, saunas, a solarium, a steam grotto and drinking fountains. If the weather is favourable, the relaxing loungers in the wonderful grassed sunbathing area provide the ideal opportunity to unwind and simply let the world go by.

The Beckenbauer Course
Golfing pleasure on luxurious greens and perfect fairways – the championship course conjured up by Bernhard Langer in the mountain meadow landscape of the Rott Valley was hailed as a "world class" course in the very year it opened. The 18 holes of the Beckenbauer Golf Course, located directly next to the Mercedes-Benz Golf Course, represent a true golfing challenge. Despite the difficulties the course presents, it also offers opportunities for special moments of pure enjoyment.
The Beckenbauer Golf Course is special in a number of ways. There is the quality of the hand mown greens and fairways are always in perfect condition, even in the high summer, thanks to a two-tier irrigation system. Then there is the course's unique character as golfers make their way past the paddocks located alongside the River Rott and enjoy the views of serveral small churches which constantly loom up on the horizon. There is also the attention to detail, the stone walls which separate the greens from the water and the small stone bridges which lead over the streams and ditches on the course.
Although the course is completely level and easy to walk, the large number of ponds and flood channels mean that precision is required. There are some long Par 3 holes (219 yards and more) where golfers will need to find the courage to attack and execute shots accurately. The Beckenbauer Golf Course provides plenty of opportunity for spectacular shots. Holes 9 and 18, for example, feature heavy bunkering and ponds leading to greens well defended by water and located directly adjacent to the Penning Estate. Many feel, with some justification, that this course is the hardest at the resort. And yet, once the round is over, the overriding feeling is one of pleasure at having completed such an enjoyable game of golf.

The Mercedes-Benz Course
German golf champion Bernhard Langer is again behind the design of the most recent championship course at the Hartl Golf Resort, the Mercedes-Benz Golf Course located directly next to the Beckenbauer Golf Course in Penning. Langer has integrated the completely level holes into the mountain meadow landscape of the Rott Valley and allowed the existing and established trees to lend the course a mature character and natural charm.
Precise stroke play and tactical course management are required to master the sharply undulating fairways, the water hazards and the well defended greens. There is plenty of opportunity to execute spectacular and feasible shots. The 13th, which measures 175 yards to a green located on a peninsula, is a tempting challenge. The final hole, which requires a difficult approach shot over water to an interestingly modelled green, will also provide you with a stiff test.

The Brunnwies Golf Course
The Brunnwies Golf Course has all the characteristics of a great course, and the unmistakeable signature of German golfing great Bernhard Langer is present in every shot you hit. The 18 holes of Brunnwies were Langer's first design brief in Bad Griesbach and have become one of Europe's top 20 courses ("Golf World England"). Brunnwies is a challenge for good golfers whilst also providing an appropriate test for players of all abilities. This is a principle which applies to all the championship courses at the Hartl Resort but is particularly true of the Brunnwies course.
The course is unbelievably charming in terms of landscape alone and offers wonderful views of the wooded terrain of Lower Bavaria. Indeed, the Rott Valley and its neighbouring hilly landscape are often referred to as the "Bavarian Tuscany". Anyone playing the 18 holes of Brunnwies will be left in no doubt as to the justification of such a description. The holes themselves have been sensitively integrated into their rural surroundings, and these combine with the hand mown greens, some of which undulate sharply, to provide a real sporting interest. A good example of this is the 11th hole, where the pin may be placed on any one of three different levels. More than any of the other courses, the Brunnwies requires a steady hand when putting if a good score is to be achieved.
The Brunnwies is also characterised by extensive rough, although your ball will be findable and playable on most occasions. You will, however, find that a completely different aspect of nature awaits you if you fail to hit the ball straight and stray from the fairways. The course is slightly hilly with two longer climbs up to holes 5 and 13. The latter of these is, however, followed by an interesting downhill Par 3 of some 164 yards down to a green well protected by water. The course ends with an exciting dog-leg Par 4 which longer hitters can drastically cut and virtually drive the green if they hit the right tee shot. But be warned: such attempts are often foiled by the trees and an out-of-bounds. Golfers playing the 18th in conventional fashion will enjoy views of the Brunnwies Estate and its attractive terrace when lining up their second shot. The green is located diagonally below this terrace, and you can be sure of the attention of guests who have finished their round and are enjoying an "après golf".
